Invisible Disabilities Week 2022 Proclamation

WHEREAS, about 66 million Americans live with a condition that could be considered an invisible or hidden disability; and

WHEREAS, the term invisible disabilities is used to describe disabilities that are not readily apparent based on appearance; and

WHEREAS, without the obvious signs of disability, people with invisible disabilities can be accused of faking or exaggerating their conditions; and

WHEREAS, because these disabilities are not readily apparent, the person’s condition may not be acknowledged by others; and

WHEREAS, the Invisible Disabilities Association works to encourage, educate, and connect
people and organizations touched by disability; and

WHEREAS, citizens are encouraged to continue the conversation about invisible disabilities online by wearing blue and using #InvisibleDisabilitiesWeek and #TimetoBelieve;

NOW, THEREFORE, We, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize October 16-22, 2022 as 

INVISIBLE DISABILITIES WEEK on this 16th day of October 2022.
