Is Vocational Rehabilitation right for you?

If you’re unsure whether vocational rehabilitation is what you need, ask yourself the following 5 questions to determine if this type of program is right for you.

1. Do you have a disability or a serious health condition?

Yes? Then VR may be right for you. No? To be eligible for VR services, you must have a disability that makes it difficult to either get or keep a job. If you do not have a disability that poses a barrier to employment but would like resources to use in your job search, visit OhioMeansJobs for a variety of helpful resources.

2. Do you want to work?

Yes? Then VR may be right for you. No? OOD’s primary purpose is to assist people with getting or keeping a job. If you don’t want to work right now or are currently unable to work, check out these online resources that may be better suited to your needs.

3. Does your disability make it hard for you to get and keep a job?

Yes? Then VR may be right for you. No? To be eligible for VR services, you must have a disability that makes it difficult to either get or keep a job. 4. Do you have the time and interest to engage in the process of finding employment?

Yes? Then VR may be right for you. No? The vocational rehabilitation process takes time. It involves determining eligibility, developing an individualized plan for employment, job search and job coaching services, etc.  If you are not able to dedicate time to the process right now, these online resources may be helpful.

5. Are you able to take care of most of your basic living needs like food, clothing, and housing?

Yes? Then VR may be right for you. No? These online resources are available if you need immediate assistance.
